Higher education and salary levels are among several factors that are giving single women the power to purchase a home on their own.
There’s a powerful new force that’s changing the face of the home buying process and is reshaping the landscape of the housing industry. Curious?
Well, take our quick two-question quiz to discover the identity and some important insights into this savvy and skilled homebuyer.
1.) Read the homebuyer trends below. Then decide: What category of buyer best fits the profile? a.) Traditional Families b.) Single Men c.) Single Women d.) Active Adults
Generally speaking, this buyer group typically:
…Buys in city over suburban areas.
…Is interested in amenities and features.
…Will not compromise on location or quality of neighborhood.
…Prefers condominiums with homeowner associations over single family homes.
…Prefers 2 or more bedrooms

…Wants close proximity to stores, shopping and fitness centers.
If you guessed, c.) Single Women, you’re absolutely correct. Single women represent the fastest growing component of home buyers in the United States at almost 20%. According to the National Association of Realtors, single women were responsible for buying approximately one out of five homes purchased in the country – a total of 1.7 million homes. (By the way, these same ladies outnumbered the single guys who represented only 15% of the buying population.)
Boomer Women Online More, Socializing With Others
November 27, 2008 in Hot Topics!, Let's Network, Of Interest, Your Opinion? | Tags: active adults online, boomer social networks, boomer women online, boomers online, web use of boomers | by pultehomes | Leave a comment
When it comes to web use in general — and social networking specifically — boomers are not an age group that we perceive as very plugged in.
However, according to a ThirdAge/JWT Boom study, today’s older adults are not only comfortable with the idea of technology, they are actively using it:
- 96% of adults boomer-aged use e-mail
- 92% stay in touch with family and friends online
- 84% receive photos of family and friends via the web

The fastest growing group of folks turning to the Internet to connect, share information, and support each other is baby boomer women.
In fact, boomers participate often in trusted online communities and even share their opinions about brands they have experience with or opinions of. And women in this age group (44 to 62) are talking about the economy, retirement, ways to redefine themselves and how to stay healthy. When it comes to guidance in life, 66% of boomers say they would trust a web site whose content is sponsored by a company they know and trust.
Boomer women are living longer than their predecessors and tend to be better educated. 41% of boomers visit social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebok, but there’s a growing number of older adult-oriented sites such as Eons.com, BOOMj, reZOOM and Boomer Girl that are gaining in popularity and membership.

Need a great gift idea for Grandma this Christmas? Try Nintendo Wii Bowling that offers some positive health and social benefits.
You’d better be keeping an eye on Grandma to see if she’s been naughty or nice. Santa just may be bringing her a Wii for Christmas this year.
Active adults are finding Nintendo’s Wii to be right up their alley with many senior centers recognizing the trend and finding a number of physical and social benefits.
Nintendo reports that 9.3 million Wii consoles have been sold since introducing the game in 2005, which retails for $250.
Interestingly enough, adults are more frequently the purchasers and players of Wii and its games, according to Chicago video game merchants.
One of the most popular games in the Wii Sports package is bowling. The reaction to the system by seniors has been a pleasant surprise with league and tournament play becoming a regular component of community calendars in active adult and retirement settings.
