Lace up your sneakers. Start your pedometers. Head to Elgin this weekend for three walking events that are sure to get your feet moving and your heart pumping. You’ll even benefit the community, too!
21st Annual Cemetery Walk, Hosted by the Elgin Area Historical Society Sunday, September 28, Noon – 3:30 pm
Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Blvd
Costumed tour guides will introduce six former Elgin residents during the walk: Dr. William Todd; Joseph Forrdrescher; Katie Thiele; Judge David Sherwood; Alice Byrd Potter; and Libbie Samuelson. Local historian Marge Edwards will share her insights about Victorian funeral superstitions. Cost is $6 and children under 14, $3. For additional info call 847-742-4248.
“Moving with the Mayor” Saturday, September 27, 9am – 12pm, Festival Park, 132 S. Grove Avenue
Along with the walks enjoy a wellness fair. Proceeds benefit Activate Elgin. To register, go to www.activateelgin.com.
